>AI will soon be able to write mass market pop music
They will never be able to replace guys like Elvis or Jim Morrison. You understand music is basically embedded into our limbic system and motor cortex right? This is primal 500 million year old evolved-out-of-vertebrae brain function we're talking about here

AI cant replace good performers because AI isnt human

the issues with poetry are present in all art (esp literature)
>lack of respect for form
all strict form is taken as a hindrance to creativity, and thus the very thing that developed and often constituted the beauty of old art is gone
>obsessed with self-expression over social role of art
art taken as purely individual and not part of a dialogue lessens it and removes much of its significance
>need to be 'accessible' (which has been taken to mean 'anything that requires effort to understand is too complex')
poetry especially relies on a certain level of elevation to develop its symbols and form
>lack of ambiguity, any work that doesn't pose itself just as social expression becomes basically a morality play. (e.g. all of these poems/stories about race that come down to 'racism is bad,' same with ones about sex and gender that come down to 'we should accept these people'--regardless of whether you politically agree with these positions you have to take issue with the death of ambiguity in literature)
think of modern movies about race like the green book or antebellum or whatever. what do they say about race except 'discrimination is bad'?
all of these things apply to all literature, but they affect poetry the most since it is defined by form and language, both of which have been attacked and reduced over the last century. it's hard to make good poetry in free verse with an 8th grader's vocabulary

2020 I set a goal to read 52 books and I did it!!! Thank you, I’m on 55 I think now.

I’m really happy with myself and got a lot out of it. This year my goal is to maintain my reading habits but focus on big books, civil war history, war and peace, les Mis, now that I have the pace to clear them. I might attempt the Bible but am reserving the right to veto it

I’m trying to read moby dick and I think a lot of it is going over my head. The prose is just so purple and some of the sentences are so long and drawn out I have a really hard time trying to extract the meaning. Some pages will take me 5 minutes to read because I have to keep going back and trying to figure out what each sentence is actually saying. Then there are the allusions to shit that I have no idea about and don’t want to interrupt reading by going on my phone to google them because I don’t have footnotes. How does anyone comprehend all of this?
