Ok /lit/, I have a question. First, a little background: I was raised in an evangelical Christian home, so the idea of a daily reader/devotional is very familiar and appealing, despite the fact that I've departed from the religious aspects of my youth. After taking a basic "Intro to Religions" class a few years ago in college, I'm still very interested in Hindu scriptures, and the Tao Te Cheng.

So, my question is this: Is there a particular translation/version of either the Tao or the Upanishads (or maybe the Vedas) that could function as a daily reader? All I'm looking for is 5-ish pages to read each morning. I'm not interested in devoting myself to any particular way of life, though I do find elements of both religions appealing.

Hey /lit/
I was hoping to get some advice. What is a good book that is similar to Lara Croft, you know, the whole weak survivor to strong inhabitant type of thing. Or just generally something where person has to grow in experience through what they can find around them?

tl;dr what is a good book that is similar to the new release of Lara Croft?

also, is there a good book on the psychology of the human person?

Thanks in advance!

/lit/, I'll try to keep this short:
I have an "Observational Essay" to work on for my English class. My topic is on the cemetery. Since I go to the cemetery every week, gathering my "observations" isn't really a difficult task. My point? Typing it isn't really a walk in the park as I thought it would. What I ask from /lit/ is; what are some DO's and DO NOT's for this type of essay and what would you advise?

Hi /lit/, time for one of these?

What's the last book you read? Did you like it?
What are you currently reading? Liking it so far?
What are you planning on reading next? Any particular reason?

Im writing an essay for ethics and part of the question is 'Identify aspects of western thought that may have contributed to those ideas (of the philosopher of our choice).
A quick question as I couldn't find much and i've been searching for a while.

Were the ideas that George Berkeley put forward in his works unique to his time or was he influenced by previous philosophers? If so who?

Cheers in advance, and please no douches telling me I haven't looked hard enough.

So I need to work out a book from a bunch of clues. Anyone feel like helping?

The clues I have are:

"The sky is ryte" is a quote and apparently a big part of the book.

It's about assassins but the word itself doesn't appear in the title.

The book was originally Swedish but has been translated to English.

A quote from the book is:
"Blood and water are a lot alike, but blood is a lot harder to get out at the end of the day."

The title is 10 words long and begins with the.

The book is 2000 pages long.

Some of the clues might not be right, especially the last one. Last thing, it's not "The girl with the dragon tattoo".

The book is about my fiancee who left me 3 months ago, and me coping with it. I'm writing in memoir form, flashback style
