>The only thing I will ever experience is the simulation my mind creates from sensory input and meditation techniques are a toolbox to make that experience more bearable.
>At the same time I can’t seem to give up the drive to want to improve this society but always run into the problem of social hierarchies and the average person being incredibly stupid.
There's nothing wrong with using that knowledge to help other sentient beings overcome this gay earth
>I want some different views. Who should I read to critique Schopenhauer?
Nietzsche is the obvious answer, so I would be surprised if you didn't come across him. Also it's worth noting that Schopenhauer is not literally Buddhist; he is basically a pre-theosophist combining the bits of Plato, Kant, some Buddhist and Vedantist translations, into something he likes. Now when Nietzsche critiques Schopenhauer he also takes Schopenhauer's reading of Buddhism largely at face value and concludes it is nihilism (he also considers Christians to be destined for this but considers them to be too moralizing compared to the Buddhists). Buddhists generally do not consider themselves nihilists, nor do Christians for that matter. But for Nietzsche denial of the will or striving for an escape to a fictional/theological world is life-negating, and thence nihilistic.

My own interpretation having read quite a bit of these, is that Buddhism, especially Mahayana, is effectively pluralism as a soteriology. Which, if you are looking for a manual to escape from reality, sounds pretty lame, and if someone has sold you Buddhism as such, will make it seem all the more lame. But that being said, there are varieties of Buddhism which do treat it as a manual to escape from reality, and these come and go in popularity, not just in western bastardizations being hawked around, but even in its Asiatic history.

>they explicitly admit the eternal existence of something which continues even after this, and Buddhists as a rule don't admit this
But everything else is an unreal illusion? Sounds like nihilism to me. It would be far less nihilistic to admit to the emptiness of reality than to say god created a fake world to live in that you can just walk away from eventually to get to the real one.

>It doesn't seem like Buddhism is able to. This contradiction is perhaps unique to Buddhism as little to no other religious traditions hold that nothing is permanent.
It's literally addressed by like EVERY Mahayana text, all of them. Not that you have to agree with them that nirvana isn't even separate from samsara and that self-mastery of the path Buddha taught should replace escapism.

China, even the concept itself of China, is nearly incapable of translation into Western thought. The Western geopolitical experience is a universal empire collapsing into personal rule of private fiefs, and then the ruled subjects of those fiefs identifying with the fiefs instead of their rulers. The Chinese empire is a permanent feature of Asia. Even when foreigners conquered China they became Chinese. China is basically a living fossil, a civilization from antiquity, but it is not safely locked in a museum. I have met Chinese people who think of themselves and their families as hundreds of years old, who know and care enough about what jobs their ancestors had in the middle ages to tell you about them. Every Chinese person to be sure, is not like this, but how many Westerners conceive of themselves, their families, or their countries as some sort of eternity? The dominant Western country, the United States, is almost entirely descended from people who elected to divorce from their homelands, cultures, communities, and so forth. An American and a Chinese person might as well not even be considered nationalities. An American is stateless (even the name of his country is plural) and a Chinese is the state. In other words, China has been breeding its people for thousands of years, while the average Western government emerges from some catastrophism or other of the last few hundred years. That is not to say China is without catastrophic traumas, but the result of these is always to reinforce China as an idea. Even the Maoist dynasty are clear on this, they demand all highways of trade are routed to the center of the universe, that any breakaway provinces be brought back under the fold. On the surface this is mistaken for nationalism because again China does not really translate to Western thought—the truth of the matter from a Chinese view is non-dual, that the world is China and China is the world.

I feel so repulsed by the modern western world, everyone is unique and has special hobbies& interests enjoying their comfort lifes while being a slave to capitalism. I don't think people are unique nor interesting, we can't do much alone but mere ideas(writing books) and China is showing how efficient it is. I'm not a fasicst but my parents lived in communist Albania and witnessed how great state education, healthcare and a job for state are for a meaningful life for our family and nation and none of this hendoism, nihilism crap we have today.
Wr are social people goddamit, it took a mild pandemic to show the cracks.

Where, like a pillow on a bed
A pregnant bank swell’d up to rest
The violet’s reclining head,
Sat we two, one another’s best;

Our hands were firmly cemented
With a fast balm, which thence did spring;
Our eye-beams twisted, and did thread
Our eyes upon one double string;

So to’ intergraft our hands, as yet
Was all the means to make us one,
And pictures in our eyes to get
Was all our propagation.

As ’twixt two equal armies fate
Suspends uncertain victory,
Our souls (which to advance their state
Were gone out) hung ’twixt her and me.

And whilst our souls negotiate there,
We like sepulchral statues lay;
All day, the same our postures were,
And we said nothing, all the day.

If any, so by love refin’d
That he soul’s language understood,
And by good love were grown all mind,
Within convenient distance stood,

He (though he knew not which soul spake,
Because both meant, both spake the same)
Might thence a new concoction take
And part far purer than he came.

This ecstasy doth unperplex,
We said, and tell us what we love;
We see by this it was not sex,
We see we saw not what did move;

But as all several souls contain
Mixture of things, they know not what,
Love these mix’d souls doth mix again
And makes both one, each this and that.

A single violet transplant,
The strength, the colour, and the size,
(All which before was poor and scant)
Redoubles still, and multiplies.

When love with one another so
Interinanimates two souls,
That abler soul, which thence doth flow,
Defects of loneliness controls.

We then, who are this new soul, know
Of what we are compos’d and made,
For th’ atomies of which we grow
Are souls, whom no change can invade.

But O alas, so long, so far,
Our bodies why do we forbear?
They are ours, though they are not we; we are
The intelligences, they the spheres.

We owe them thanks, because they thus
Did us, to us, at first convey,
Yielded their senses’ force to us,
Nor are dross to us, but allay.

On man heaven’s influence works not so,
But that it first imprints the air;
So soul into the soul may flow,
Though it to body first repair.

As our blood labours to beget
Spirits, as like souls as it can,
Because such fingers need to knit
That subtle knot which makes us man,

So must pure lovers’ souls descend
T’ affections, and to faculties,
Which sense may reach and apprehend,
Else a great prince in prison lies.

To our bodies turn we then, that so
Weak men on love reveal’d may look;
Love’s mysteries in souls do grow,
But yet the body is his book.

And if some lover, such as we,
Have heard this dialogue of one,
Let him still mark us, he shall see
Small change, when we’are to bodies gone.
