He does sound extremely butthurt in those quotes you provided. I had a feeling he had some bullshit metaphysical priors

What it is about nirvana=samsara that makes /lit/ seethe so much? Or are you just overpoliticized election tourists who can't parse other systems of thought?

Sure go ahead and prove things are permanent and have "essences". I'll wait. While you are busy negating reality into a noetic realm of magical essences, I will continue to affirm emptiness.

>do the Buddhists really consider that simplistic of an argument to be sufficient when it has already been addressed
Already addressed? In India the response is "the Vedas say." Buddhists do not accept the Vedas as authoritative. In Buddhism there's a sliding scale of addressing rival theological arguments to proclaiming gods themselves are either nonexistent or they are inferior to Buddhas, because ultimately the worship of deities is not fundamental to Buddhism. Buddhists are not constantly worrying about proving or disproving gods and that takes up a minimal part of scripture and other literature. If you're going to say god is so super-duper he can do everything all at once and forever without any changes to himself, there really is no answer to that other than to be smug. You've stopped caring about anything we can actually know and argue over, and are just imagining things on the basis of revelation.

>This is identical with modern materialism, as much as Buddhists would wish to deny it.
Materialism, atomism, etc. is expressly denied in the sutras as a false view. Read more than wikipedia before you try to understand something other than ancient capeshit theology.

Pratitya samutpada or dependent origination/arising is just an explanation for phenomena. It is not the same as soteriology. What you're calling nonaction in terms of ultimate goal is more properly understood as the cessation of retribution or ripening of effects resultant from volition, which is a wordy way of saying karma ceases to operate as a regulating principle of conditioned existence when one is liberated, which is itself a wordy way of saying you become entirely sovereign as beyond good and bad

Jane Eyre is the only book I read this month that made the list. Honestly, it fell a little flat for me. I enjoyed it, but it didn't live up to the massive legacy of the Bronte sisters. The romance(?) between Jane and St John was much more compelling than that of her and Rochester. St John's willingness to forsake love in favor of religious piety made him very interesting. Do you guys think he made right decision?

Also, anon who read Nadja, please tell me your thoughts.

I know there's a few answers to the deep sleep thing but I've usually glossed over it. It's a bit like the question of where your mind "goes" during the jñanas, which is definitely answered repeated in the nikayas (I don't remember but should not be hard to locate in either DN or MN). Short answer is that there's a subtle layer of consciousness (though this is not permanent but conditioned like any other phenomena). The smart ass answer is that waking and sleep are both delusional forms of experience anyway.

Nagarjuna presupposes you are already a Buddhist and has a terse writing style per the karika genre conventions. You should check out the nikayas if you haven't, ie. the sutra collections from the Pali Canon, either the Long or Medium-Length Discourses, or both. Things like dependent origination, nirvana, samsara, lower-case dharmas in the sense of phenomena or existents. Otherwise what Nagarjuna is talking about will be hard to follow. Some people argue Heidegger ripped off Zen. I don't really know. But Zen itself comes from Chan, and Chan comes from Huayan, a Chinese Mahayana school. It will take you a long time to read through all the material that leads to phenomenology and Zen if you are interested in that direction.
