Thanks OP. On the plus side, consider that most well known authors have many minor works from their early years which nobody gives a shit about. If you're famous enough that people do care about them, then you already won, so it's irrelevant.

Just make sure you don't stop writing. Get on with that next work. Prove how much better you've become.

Why do plebs worship this book so much? Every aspiring genre fiction hack on /r/writing swears by it. I've even heard that Stephen King recommends it.

How did this mediocre grammar pamphlet written by an otherwise unknown early-20th century college professor and revised by the guy who wrote Charlotte's Web become the hack's Bible on so-called style?

Universities started to standardize things differently.

Also, printing presses had a lot of operation quirks so it was advantageous to reuse certain letters rather than replace them.

Apparently, that's why you see bizarre-yet-consistent spelling errors ("s" replaced with "f", etc.)

What is our opinion of Strunk and White?

Is it just prescriptivist BS by people who weren't even grammarians?
