Why do some old authors so sporadically use names like "Joseph K-------" or "M------ Bridge?" It makes it seem like they're trying to hide identities, but in the same books they always have so many other characters and places whose names aren't obscure at all.

What are /lit/'s thoughts on Kafka? If you love his writing what draws you to it, or if you hate it what is it that makes you push it away?

I got drawn in after going through The Stoker fragment included with a collection of his short stories. I don't really care much for short stories as short as the ones throughout the rest of the book but as soon as I got to The Stoker I couldn't put it down and just loved how it read albeit translated. I didn't like Metamorphosis as much as it and I'm halfway through Amerika at the moment with The Trial coming in the mail.
