Was nietzche being literal when talking about the ubermensch, or is it just a metaphor for self improvement/expression?

If you're seriously at that point, why not just drop of the map and go to some dangerous country? If you sincerely don't value your life why not use that to your advantage to have some kind of adventure rather than just petering out in suicide? Not saying you should do this and I hope you do end up valuing your life, but if you're really at the point of no return at least go out doing something heroic.
