/lit/ - Literature

i want to be able to interpret and review works on my own accord, not seek out other people's thoughts on them in order to form my opinion. the problem is i don't actually think deeply when i'm reading. i just kind of take what the author is saying as gospel unless i absolutely know for sure they're wrong about something. it's the same thing with movies too - i have to watch analysis videos and read articles before i understand what the hell is going on. does anyone have any advice for me? do i just keep plugging away at reading until it finally starts clicking?

Personal 10/10s thread. Which books - fiction or non-fiction - are just perfect in your eyes? It doesn't matter if it's a popular classic or if it's a book it seems you've only read and it's pulpy as fuck, let's just vent about our favourite books and reading experiences.
