What's the best writing advice that you've ever received? Or alternatively, found out through experience?

The coomerpastas on this board are an eyesore. In this thread we change that. /lit/'s greatest writers are gathered here today to write pastas that will make a man never cum again.

The non-lefty version of this is just the top layer left intact and all the other layers filled with a big picture of Carl Schmitt, and the pictures on the right indicating the reader also being replaced with different pictures of Carl Schmitt. Personally, I think that would be a much better chart than this one.

Bitter was my drink, the black poison which slowly seeped into me each passing day - but I did not mind. It is in the peculiar nature of the human being to draw satisfaction even from the blackest cup, to savor being dealt the worst hand, to be intoxicated by misery, the blacker the better - bitter was my sweet.

Nobody really cares about prose, it's just a means to an end. Instead, learn to communicate and come up with ideas, make a weave out of these ideas that will move the reader.
However, most importantly, put yourself in the shoes of a stranger, utterly ignorant of your intentions, bored and just waiting for an excuse to put down your work. Everything that is unclear, annoying, pretentious, cringy, melodramatic - it will all stand out. Trying to write prose well beyond your ability for it's own sake is all of these.

Anybody know any good guides or articles about point of view? Especially what editors consider a mistake in 3rd person, and what is alright?

I know it's generally best to keep the narration going around one person's subjective view and internal conflict, if not for an entire novel, then at least for individual chapters. However, how much wiggle room is there in the knowledge the narrator has at a certain time? If I suddenly change from just describing external ques, to their thoughts, or a statement that they did something because of x, is that too jarring?

/̶p̶o̶l̶/ /lit/ was especially shitty today. Full of adolescent men trying assert their dominance over other pseuds. Nobody here actually reads books. Yet, somehow, they still form opinions about them. I gained nothing by coming here. Just wasted time. I will be back tomorrow.
