>why do you read?
to find meaning.
>what are the risks of reading?
not finding meaning.
>what are the limitations of reading?
that it expresses no meaning.

When it comes to quality writing and all-around characterization; fantasy fails immeasurably. Science Fiction has many examples of a proper novel. But I'm afraid to say -though I'm a huge fantasy reader- there are none whatsoever in fantasy fiction.

The closest to a proper novel must be Tehanu buy Ursula K. LeGuin. I'm not a big fan of her but it's the only fantasy novel worth reading in Earthsea series.

I mean, some will say "they try to mimic epics; hence no proper characters" or smth like that but even Odysseia has better characterisation.

So, what is your suggestion on a proper novel (not just a loooooooong fable, or a tale)?

>no-vel: an invented prose narrative that is usually long and complex and deals especially with human experience through a usually connected sequence of events

TV certainly dates itself more than literature, but so does music. They just serve different purposes.

isn't that 'irony'?

Isn't 'post-irony' simply not giving a fuck? If so, I'm all about it.

I was going to start a thread about this, but I might as well ask it here.

Can one learn all one needs to about philosophy from Wikipedia and plato.stanford.edu, or is reading the original works vital to a comprehensive understanding?
