if everybody lived like him, we'd still be living in caves and mud huts

Books on the history of worklife or employment?

Has employment always been miserable or was there a balance in the past? Obviously anecdotal but everyone seems unhappy or outright depressed and seems to be linked to their jobs. My personal belief is that
it's perfectly natural to hate being in a subordinate position without hope of improvement. We have just normalize it in recent history. Feel free to correct me.

I have gotten fat. Not America-tier fat, but lockdown has given me some extra kg. My friends calls me fat, but I think im pretty sure its banter and to encourage me getting fit again. What they dont know is that it is really impacting my psyche and I am not happy with my body anymore. I dont feel like I have the right to eat and if I eat, I should eat less.

But I am improving. Im not eating junkfood, candy nor drinking cola anymore like I used to. I have began running about 3-4 times a week. The trail I run on is about 3 to 4 Km and I start at my house and finish at my house. I am also looking into bodyweight training and getting stronger. From tomorrow and every following Sunday, I will measure my weight to see if I am doing any progess.

The more I write, the more I realise this feels like a "life is miserable and I require empathy" post. Honestly I just needed to vent a little since this has been bothering me for some time now. Thanks for making this Thread op. I really needed to vent.

Reading requires an open mind. This leaves you vulnerable to other peoples politics. This is dangerous, because I know them to be wrong. Further, I trust people I sympathize with to try to sway me with their sympathies, as is their right.

But I can't conflate what I know to be true with what I want to be true. I need people to be capable of arguing in way that relies on critical thinking and logic, not by playing on my heartstrings.

Frankly I haven't seen any author that motivates me to pursue literature in any form, because literature is generally for arguing the finer nuance of an idea, and not in the ideas principle itself, which is easily enough summarized that it doesn't require a story.
