Why is this group not doing better? Poorly choice of stories? I really liked Bartleby, Death of Ivan Ilyich, and The Man Who Would Be King. A lot of people seemed to like Bartleby at least.

Was it because Death of Ivan Ilyich was too long? Did that kill the group?

Is it because people don't feel committed to the group, whereas with the W&P/COMC everyone feels like they are part of the group?

Are short stories just not /lit/ reading group material?

Is there anything I can do to improve the group?

I lost 500GB worth of audio books (and radio plays). Some that i'll never be able to find again.

In salute, post a cap of your audio book folder.

I agree. It's extremely depressing, and has made me even more disillusioned with the government. It's painful to watch the people in charge blatantly lie and restrict freedoms while you're forced to just stand there and take it. It makes me feel powerless.

What's a good book for my /robot/ status? Perhpaps how to boost confidence when you are 20+. Either advices or a story of someone who went thru low selfsteem growing up.

Better yet, is there a good book on how to stop being so damn fucking lazy?

I'll appreciate it and update after reading it

Didactic, patronizing, condescending and arguably neo-intellectual twaddle.

I can't say I've read all that much of Kierkegaard, and most of it was from High School when I didn't give a single fuck about it, but what I did read some about was his relationship to his once-fiancée. What was the deal with that? I read one of the quotes from Enten-Eller and it seems from that that he simply did not want to have anything to do with her because it would end in pain(specifically: regret) no matter what so he'd be better off sparing the effort. Specifically it's from:
>”Gift Dig, Du vil fortryde det; gift Dig ikke, Du vil ogsaa fortryde det; gift Dig eller gift Dig ikke, Du vil fortryde begge Dele; enten Du gifter Dig, eller Du ikke gifter Dig, Du fortryder begge Dele. "
>Marry, you'll regret it; don't marry, you'll also regret it; marry or don't marry, you'll regret both; either you marry or you don't marry, you regret both
And the part goes on with other examples, laughing or crying at the cruelty of the world, trust a girl or don't trust a girl, hang yourself or don't, and ends with:
>"Dette, mine Herrer, er Indbegrebet af al Leve-Viisdom"
>This, gentlemen, is the epitome of all Life-Wisdom
But the thing is he apparently deeply regretted breaking it off with her and tried to get in contact with her afterwards(when she became engaged and married to one of her music teachers or something). What's up with that? Then bearing in mind >>6946086
>Also its interesting to think about Kierkegaard and how religious he is and then to remember that one night he got really drunk and had sex with a whore.
Was he just not fully invested in his own philosophy(and beliefs) but merely thought them to be the right thing to do, and then subsequently struggled in his own life to follow what he had concluded was the right way to live?

>den folelse når ingen pige værd at forfore

/lit/, I need your help.

A friend asked me to read a book they wrote and criticize it for them, and I need to let her know it's absolute shit without making her feel bad.

>mfw it's a high fantasy
>mfw it's literally just LotR with more female characters
>mfw grammar is terrible and there are hardly any words over 3 syllables

One time when she asked what I thought I told her that there are more descriptive words for "sadness" (she used it 3 times in a couple pages), and asked if she used a thesaurus while writing, and she became very offended, so I already know she can't take criticism. I don't want to lose a friend, but I feel like I need to let her know that her novel is pleb tier shit without breaking her heart. What do?
