Even if I really like the first book I've read of an author I feel like that's too early to say that I like that author, since that book could be very different from the author's usual style. By the same token even if I didn't like a book I usually I give an author one more chance. It would be a shame, for instance if I had refused to read any more Cormac McCarthy just because I didn't like The Road very much, or Stanislaw Lem because A Perfect Vacuum started off climbing up its own ass.

How many of an author's books do you read before passing judgment on that author?
