This made boomers piss and shit and cum themselves with laughter over how funny they thought it would be if rockets fell wherever a guy had sex

How does Pynch know so much? Is it true that he has CIA connections?

I saw on the wikipedia article for pynchon that Gravitys Rainbow is seen as a precursor of the cyberpunk genre. I've read the book multiple times and never really picked up on this angle, can someone please help me understand the connection?

Why does most (if not all) Postmodernist fiction not have any soul? It's all about "ideas" which are well and good but ideas have no impact if there is no heart to the story.

What book has altered your life in a profound way? And how?

I became atheist after reading GR (thanks Mr. Pynchon).

How much prose is too much prose?
I started reading Gravity's Rainbow today and it's not enjoyable, all that detail.

You might say I was filtered but if all that extravagant detail isn't adding to the plot, why am I reading it? It's just fluff. All that banana breakfast detail on the beginning--how is it adding to the plot?

Why can't authors practice restraint? Nothing really happens, page after page, just unnecessary prose piled on top of more prose because the author wants to suck his own dick.
Prose is meant to service the story not mask how wafer thin the plot is.

If you can relate, please rec me books that maintain a good balance.

I tried reading this book last summer and only got a hundred or so pages in. Going to try again now and I have a vague recollection of people mentioning a couple hundred page side book that has all of the references, anybody know where I can find it?

Is there a right-wing version of Pynchon that empahises natural hierarchy, race and tradition? I like Pychon but can't stand to read him, as I feel he's trying to indoctrinate me with his Marxist dogma.

It's funny how people want to shit on American literature, and then all you have to do is bring up picrel which absolutely shits all over anything else in the history of literature (yes that includes Homer and Shakespeare), and all the faggy Europeans (or whatever third world shithole they're from) get real quiet.

I got filtered by this book. I'm really confused about Blicero and his firing the rocket due north.

Narratively/plotwise, what did Blicero the character hope to achieve? And why did the twink go along with it?

And what is the symbolic meaning of the firing of the rocket, firing it due north, the twink inside, etc.? And how does it fit the theme?

book is solid but 609 pages in and i can safely say this book is not funny. it just feels like pynchon is trying to shock me with how zany and absurdist he can be like "hehe, you won't see THIS in the western canon!" instead of just actually trying to be authentically funny. and so much of the book plays into that absurdist humor that it's not just something i can ignore when judging it

infinite jest was way funnier than this. that was absurdist but it felt like it was coming from a place of genuine creativity rather than just shock value

>you're not meant to understand all of it. the point is that it cant all be understood
should this really be considered a virtue for a book? i have come to feel there might be too much cynicism in this perspective. it used to be the case that a novel was judged based upon how it came together and how the narrative was woven to make sense. i don't really see why being confusing for the sake of it should be considered a higher form of art

Someone please give me a writing prompt. I feel like my writing is actively getting worse because I have no guidance or structure. Would love it if someone more experienced than me could critically analyze my writing and tell me where I'm fucking up.
