I fear I'm working against myself by studying English which is what I want to study and having an ambition to live in another country which is what I want to do

I'm not really sure why should one wipe out the other. And while I think that thing in the article could plausibly pass for an unfinished canvass of Francis Bacon, all the algorithm attempts at poetry or writing in general I've read somehow managed to be even worse than the things in local critique threads.

I think if you're looking for a girl to be someone you can talk to about interesting topics like you read about in books, whatever it may be, religion, philosophy, etc, you're setting yourself up for disappointment.
That's what I've realized. It's not meant to be a sexist thing, but the majority of girls just aren't interested in those things. Save the discussions on Dante and Plato or whatever for the boys.

Although I see why you'd say Notes from the Underground, Gogol's Undercoat is a way better answer.

Fuck, that sucks anon, I can relate.

I have been in love with my girl for over a year. There has been times when we would get together and connect and us being together would seem so close, then she'd retreat. Now she hardly talks some weeks and talks all day next week. But she uses me, for comfort, reassurance, homework help. She says she's very into her school and intellectual pursuits, but she constantly shows it's a farce in ways I can see. She constantly tries to make herself seem a certain way to me for some reason, says she hates drinking, doesn't party, is a loner, loves to read, etc. Pretty much trying to make herself seem like a movie character or something.

But she called me late last night, I could tell she was drunk and I could hear tons of people in the background, full of the type of talk and conversation she always makes fun of. And I realized she didn't invite me, she has her group that she wants to be with, I'm not in it.

Yeah I have a similar bond to IJ. The cast of characters genuinely felt like friends to me. Like I knew them well and they knew me well. Reading it was like hanging out with my close but big group of friends. I don't have such friends irl.
I was also reading it for so long that it became a comfort thing, the summer I read through it I was working a job I hated, but I got through every day because I knew IJ was waiting for me when I got home. I knew that soon the shitty day would end and I'd be back with my friends

I miss them

In the marketplace for contemporary (stop using the word modern for stuff made 1950-) art it is possoible to thrive for almost anything from conceptualism to representational painting like this. The author of the video is just buttfrustrated...

Just to be further clear, mindfulness makes no claim or analysis to the nature of being, yet asks you to focus and understand it. What are you meant to focus and understand? That you are? It further makes no claim even *that* you are, placing it outside the camp of metaphysics.

Being is better handled by Heidegger, the Greeks, in stories of experience and time and dynamic human condition. Mindfulness promises none of that, because if it did it might actually have to deliver something to be considered valid.

How is mindfulness different or better than prayer? If it is not different, of what meaning is the distinction? If the point is atheistic, does mindfulness argue for atheism, or humanism? No, because that would make it weak to attacks that traditionally oppose those fronts. Mindfulness is intentionally amorphous, so it cannot be pegged for being wrong. This also means that it holds no actual content.

>Lack of content is not a presence of hidden value.
