I'm about halfway throught part 1 of 120 Days of Sodom. So far, it's been nothing but pages and pages about eating little girl boogers, poop, drinking their pee and other depraved shit. When does the philosophy kick in?

What do you think marquis de sade would be like today? I think he’d probably be some school shooter with all the fucked shit he wrote about.

Surely there must be something else like the 120 days of sodom. Surely sade wasn't the only person to live a life of unbridled sexual excess and write fiction about it. I imagine there's droves of writings out there just like it, scat and taboo and all. Where are they?

So we all know Spengler, Sorel and the likes who were going on and on about decadence and decline at the beginning of the 20th century.

What are some philosophers who saw this decadence as something to embrace rather than something that has to be fought? Only De Sade comes to my mind.

What do you guys think about The 120 Days of Sodom? As a person that has never seen the film, I could say it was the most interesting books I have ever read, Sade was a little bit obsessed with Coprophilia, but that was only small problem.

Could anyone recommend a good biography about Marquis de Sade for me? Any great biographies about other french revolutionary figures are also helpful.
