I spent the entire last night talking to an anon from soc about various things and one of the things we talked about was finding happiness and having some sort of an artistic aspiration in life to create a feeling of purpose and identity. This is a thing that I've been struggling a lot with recently but this conversation sparked a feeling of hope. Today I have been feeling a growing sense of wanting to express myself. I'm not sure which is going the be the right medium for me, but the ones that interest me the most are the written word and video/filmmaking.

That humans live their lives through their own imagination. You can break down every mechanism of why you operate a certain way, but you can't change the fact that the ability to pretend is a uniquely human trait. Our minda are capable of believing more than what is just in front of us. Art is expressed in many forms, whether you write it down on paper or perform it to an audience of yourself. They are all representations of the inner self. The outside world is matter. It is bendable and physical. What our mind can fathom and express can never be captured fully. It can only be expressed through other means. Control your own world and use your own imagination to create a better world than what appears before you. There is more to the world than its physical properties.

This insight didn't come from a novel, but it was my interpretation of the movie Burning. It isn't the greatest film ever, but there are certain works of art that came at seminal moments of my life and changed them in ways that completely changed my future. I wouldn't have made the same decisions and might have ended up with different people. I don't believe in some human looking god, but I do see that life has a funny way of letting you know that a door is open. I love all of you guys. This website changed me, and you are all just faceless bodies of text. I choose what I decide to follow. I hope we can all parse a comfortable trail.

This is somewhat related to the thread, so I guess I'll ask this here
I'm a Senior in HS and just got accepted to a top 10 school in the US. I'm a lazy shithead though and the only subjects I like are comparative religion and philosophy. I'm not really that qualified compared to some of the private school kids I see that got accepted especially in STEM fields. Do you guys think I should go to a T10 school and struggle or go to my state school for the comp sci meme and get an easy IT job. I see so many people moaning about college work on 4chan that I sometimes wonder if I'm even cut out for it. I got into a great school but I am worried I'm not cut out for the workload. Just wanna become a monk neet desu. I hate the natural sciences.
