I've heard that in order to properly understand philosophy, you must read Aristotle's metaphysics and Kant's Critiques

Is this true? For some reason I've been skipping Kant and Aristotle up to this point but philosophers I read are constantly referring to Kant.

Okay, so I read Apology of Socrates and Crito a few years ago and now I'd like to get back into the greeks. Thing is I'd like for it to be more technical or systematic, I guess, since as far as I remember, Apology and Crito were pretty much dudes arguing about philosophical questions like justice, rightousness etc, and I didn't really get much beyond a "mindset".
Do I need more Plato before jumping into pic related?

Is it true that the great, foundational books of western literature can't be understood without a teacher? If so, am I wasting my time reading the Bible and homer on my own

I loved reading Plato and Socrates.

Started reading this book by Aristotle and goddamn this idiot's writing is so muddy and hard to comprehend.

Plato was like butter to my ears. Reading Aristotle is like letting someone fart near your ear constantly.

I finally got tired and deleted it from my e-reader.

I just finished reading Aristotle's Metaphysics. Why did he spend half the book disputing other philosophies and misquoting Homer? The parts where he was developing his own philosophy were fantastic, and I enjoy his rigorous, deductive reasoning, but it became hard to follow when every other chapter was him contesting other ancient philosophies nobody but a Greek history major has bothered to read.
