lol as someone who has read the series but knows nothing about philosophy, I'm now realizing that there's probably a lot that went over my head in regards to that field

Whatever happened to the skin spy that was impersonating Simas? The one that Maithanet unmasked at the end of The Warrior Prophet, that supposedly had a soul and was one of the few. It seems that it never showed up again, even though it seemed it would have huge implications for the plot. Bakkerbros??

>tfw realizing the fatal synergy – even romance – between the indomitable passions and madnesses that rule the hearts of both the Cunoroi and the Inchoroi

Cheers, Anon. To Life, to Love, and to this accursed World.

they're terrified of mortality. like the sranc, they are purpose-built, bioengineered, rape-killing damnation machines so it's not really their fault. but the sranc had the soul module removed so they get all the fun without any of the consequences.

the way bakker sees it, all of this simply the logical endpoint of being able to watch porn on your phone.

Interesting, I presume this is how Seswatha avoids damnation – his heart is rationed (via dreams, which themselves seem to be some kind of topoi) among his hundreds of living followers, allowing him to permanently reside at the threshold of the Outside. As long as Mandati are being Whelmed that is – I imagine if the ritual was to cease, Seswatha would find himself dragged into hell.

Only somewhat related, but I'm also interested in the "anarcane" nature of chorae – the tears of God seem to "cancel" the meaning of magic and restore the World to its Created state. Does this mean that sorcerers are actually "cleansed" when salted, purged of their Mark body and soul? That would be ironic, the Inchoroi were accomplishing their own goal upon their enemies all along. Are we ever given proof in which a salted sorcerer is sent to hell?
Lastly, I'm wondering if the God-of-Gods, as Creator of the fallen world, is more of a supreme creator-archon like Yaldabaoth, or a true gnostic divinity residing in Pleroma? Mimara seems like the Sophia analogue in the series.

yeah, i always expected that even if they got down to 144,000 (biblical number of the elect in revelations, btw), that it still wouldn't close the world. the inchoroi already failed on countless other planets despite reducing the populations to 12K^2; why is eärwa really so special?

i like in Bakker's writing that nothing is ever clearly certain as to being necessarily one way or another, that no single perspective is objectively true and the reader should doubt the accuracy of every character's viewpoint. he shares that with Wolfe.

An ultra-HD, ancient Inchoroi HUD that shows the horrific, undeniable truth of your soul burning in hell and immediately convinces everyone who looks in it to become heckin evil and attempt to shut the World.

“After a time,” he said vacantly, “the sheer profundity of it, the monstrous scale of the anguish … it becomes soothing … sublime …”
The sluicing of firelight across white skin.
“And never … never repeating, always different … like some kind of broken arithmetic …”

I'm re-reading TWP. Interesting to realize that at this point the reader is still let to believe (like the Inrithi believe) that it's primarily whores and sorcerers who are damned rather than literally everyone. Oh sweet summer child....
