I agree. Having a bunch of different POVs is often a red flag. Having such a wide scope without any central emotional conflict makes it much harder to stay invested, I think I dropped Malazan and Bakker's book series several times before finishing the first book. The Witcher series is somewhat pulpy but its condensed story makes it way more readable and enjoyable than 90% of the books that get recommended here.
