The Brothers Karamazov. If you are looking for something short, The Death of Ivan Ilyich is pretty deep.

Ok, before I buy this book, please explain to me that it is worth my time.

Is it actually as good as everyone on this board says it is?

What books had a really deep impact on you or changed you in some way?
How did it change you?
Why?

Pic related.
Grew up with an abusive father, one half sibling, one full sibling, adopted younger sibling. We kind of fell into the archetypes of the characters and were born in the same order too. Dad was horrible to my mom just like to Ivan and Alyosha's. Reading it gave me a sense of peace, and made me stop considering fratricide.

My doctor actually recommended I read it when I was a teenager after he heard my story. Didn't read it until college though.
