While we can talk of outsider art, there is no outsider man. Cooperative living is a consequence of the fact that our desires are of a like kind, and so in the nebulous overlap there is civility. Our desires repeat with predictable regularity. And the objects around us change slowly. Customs and habit at once express and shape this. The conformist knows the world but not themselves and in this way they are ruthless pragmatists. For a desire to spurred, you must comprehend the object. In this way a frog is less conflicted than a dog. If we think about concepts of justice, the superior person can appreciate what’s fashion. Because they can grasp the objects sufficiently and so also the desires spurred and situate these rightly. The ancients appreciated on this sort of ground that eudaimonia or happiness or right living isn’t for everyone. The refutation is one, but fashions are many. This is the basis of the supposedly antiquated ideas of caste, and is the foundation of any merit some forms of it might have. When a person who can’t distinguish fashion from refutation offers their opinions, it’s like this: If you host an exhibition of your paintings at a gallery, and a blind man comes and runs his hands over the painted canvases, then comes up to you and offers his opinions on their beauty, do you take him seriously?
