The KJV is not a translation of the Vulgate.

Also depends on what you really want to know. Do you want to learn about Jesus?

I would start with the Gospel According to Mark. It is the shortest of the synoptic gospels and was written for a Gentile audience. It gets straight in to Jesus' ministry.

Matthew was written for a Jewish audience and presents him as the Messiah. It has the most references to the prophet Isaiah than the other gospels I think.

Luke's Gospel and Acts of the Apostles are both believed to have been written by Luke and I would read Acts right after Luke. Acts is the history of what the apostles did after Jesus was received up into Heaven. It is the earliest history we have of the Church.

The Gospel of John is unlike the other 3 gospels and was written late in John's life. It is all about establishing the divinity of Jesus and is very beautiful.

The Epistles appear after Acts. They are the letters between Paul and the various churches and letters from the other Apostles.

If you are interested in the creation of the world and the Fall of man you can of course read Genesis at any time!

>the newer stuff (new international?) is degenerate
They're right you know. Many people will pick a modern version of the Bible that conforms to their already held beliefs instead of conforming themselves to God's word. God promised to preserve his word for us and I believe he did in the KJV. It has endured for over 400 years and was the last translation produced under ecclesiastical authority. The newer translations don't have the staying power that the KJV does, nor do the newer versions have such beautiful language used.
