How often do you comment upon authors or books you haven't actually read? Be honest /lit/.

I do it all the time. I've never read Nietzsche formally for example but I feel confident enough to discuss his ideas due to exposure to, likely, others such as myself.

This is now a thread about literature.

How does Hobbes reconcile his individualism with the 'war of all against all', when this is what individualism naturally entails?

I'm very close to skipping the first book and just going straight for the statecraft parts. I just can't handle his dumb special definitions for every word in the dictionary

I'm about to dive in to this. Anything I need to know before I start?

So I just discovered that the only version of Leviathan that is in print is the shitty Penguin paperback (and of course those terrible print-on-demand editions as well).

I have to get a 50 year-old Everyman's Library edition at an absurdly inflated price from abebooks if I want something that won't fall apart in 2 years.

How is it possible that a work like this is not being sold in hardcover? Don't they make undergrads read it? Surely there's a market for it.

Why don't authors try to make book covers as memorable and aesthetically elegant as album covers, film posters or vidya box art? I know the old saying about never judging a book by its cover but holy shit, most of them nowadays just look like baby's first design project.
