So /lit/, I figured this would be the better place to go to discuss literary elements such as the meaning and theme of a work, albeit not necessarily literature.

I just watched Donnie Darko for the first time (yes, I have been living under a rock, it was just so comfy).

Anyway, I was hoping I could get a discussion rolling regarding any questions anyone has about the film, any profound messages gained, anything.

For instance, I was incredibly intrigued by the story's meddling with supposedly fixed elements of the universe - time and space. I thought it was an excellent manifestation of the randomly fated chances and coincidences of events in the universe, and how they appear to connect. I also detected the tone that time and real-life/waking perceptions (as opposed to dreams and imagination) may not be so concrete as we assume, therefore suggesting that we should perhaps question what truly is and is not real, if anything...

... among other things...

Please, discuss.

Oh and to keep it /lit/ related in any case, I was also wondering if any of you have read either of the two novels that the class studies in the tangent universe and if you would recommend them.
