I liked the Belgariad because I enjoyed the slice of life/familial bonding matched up with the classic hero's journey overlayed with a prime cosmic motivator in which the hero, despite his importance, is still just a small piece of a grand tapestry literally written in the stars.

Also I like the Prydain Chronicles as those books feel the most like "this is what early culture on the border of arborealness to agrarianism viewed as their fantasy and myth" to me.

This series really resonated with me. Alexander tries to do a Tolkien-thing with Welsh mythology.
