This is why the common man doesn't take poetry, or even prose, seriously anymore. All you goddamn blowhards from this decrepit Kyrgyztani sausage smoking forum to once-renowned publishers with your "enjambment" and FrEe VeRsE praise. You know it's worthless trash when only rappers dare to touch it and you are praising actual children who likely can't even tie their shoes.
Literature dies to the sound of fanfare, here.

I visited a temple of sin (Barnes & Noble) recently while traveling and noticed a peculiar trend. Towards the front was a whole display of new fiction books and almost all of them had "a novel" somewhere on the cover. Is this just the trendy thing, like putting colons in paper titles to make them sound more academic, or are modern B&N shoppers so braindead that they need to be told on the cover of a fiction book that it's fictional? I get that you wouldn't want to put money down on what you think is a book, only to find out it's an anthology or something, but it's not like it's illegal to read the back or open to the table of contents. What's up with this?

How often do I read what? I let ALdaily and The Browser feed me what’s worthy. After that I check out FT and WSJ, sometimes NYT.
I’d like to have access to more reactionary sources but don’t know where to go. As for books, I read probably once ever two days.

Because it's the most referenced piece of literature in the Western world by far. Forget the 'Start with the Greeks' meme, start with The Bible (KJV).

On second thought, maybe reading literature isn't for you.
