You need to live, you can still get a happy ending. I didn't get my shit together until I was 28, I had absolutely nothing and now I am 33 and have almost everything I want by just steady planning, not a silver bullet or a lottery ticket. But don't define yourself by what you have or have not already achieved. As cheesy as it sounds, the step by step pursuit of what you're after can fulfill you, insofar as life is fulfilling.

Trim unnecessary words out of the sentence. You can condense all of the feelings you have in an entire paragraph into one or two short sentences, poets regularly do this. So focus on eliciting the feeling that you want, not on finding a place to use $5 words.
Maybe try reading good poetry every now and then and see how they do it. Maybe try Robert Frost.

Only do this if you're forced to, and if you submit a manuscript for editing or for alpha readers to look at for the next few days or weeks, you have to work on something else. I advise against multiple projects because it is challenging to jump between wildly different spheres of ideas too often, I would prefer to stay acquainted with what I'm doing to stay consistent and organized. When the alpha readers or editors bring a story back to you, you will be forced to switch back anyways. There are times when some writers put a story in their "trunk" and work on something else, but that is worst case scenario. Avoid giving up on your story too early.
