>Where to start with him?
idk, i've only read his critiques on deleuze

>Is it really worth it
I think yes (but my opinion is based only in how little I've read him)

>he’s just an inferior version of Deluze idea-wise?
I don't think so. Badiou has another perspective and system. His critique is that he thinks Deleuze's 'virtual' is just another way of affirming the One-All ---which is not entirely false--- but, at the end, what he say is based on his own idea of the 'multiple', not on Deleuze's idea of 'multiplicity'.

Overall I think Badiou is worth reading if you still want to engage with dialectics (and its consequences), which Deleuze refuses. As a hint, if you want to pick either Deleuze or Badiou, you can make yourself an idea on this:

>Badiou <-- Hegel <-- Kant <-- Descartes <-- Plato + Set Theory
>Deleuze <-- Nietzsche <-- Kant <-- Spinoza + Differential Calculus (Bergson and Plato are optionals. Deleuze uses a lot of Bergson's ideas but overall he's more of a Nietzschean than a Bergsonian)
