Maximalism is a meme.
If the author can't say it in 400 pages, the author can't say it at all.

Read him however you want. Nothing's like Gravity's Rainbow but Mason & Dixon and Against the Day are within the "postmodern doorstopper" category. While they aren't GR part 2, you'd probably appreciate them.

You might look into more "postmodern doorstoppers".

/lit/ likes its maximalism, or at least it likes its memes about maximalism. There are those who actually tackle such books and there are those who take a certain amount of pleasure in pretending to have read them to trick other people into reading them. (I am currently halfway through Infinite Jest.)

But is maximimalism already a dead genre? Is there room for development in the maximalism genre besides simply writing longer and longer and more and more convoluted novels? Will the next maximalist "masterpiece" be 5,000 pages long instead of 1,000, written in 5 languages and hidden behind a cipher?

Can maximalism be effectively/reasonably/safely be interrelated with ethical systems? Is it possible to argue in favor of, say, "more good," or is it more proper to argue for a paring down, to avoid hedonic excess or other excess and instead try to trim all the fat from one's own and also society at large's mind and soul?

i just bought a copy of this for a sick price a few days ago and i'm excited to get into it as well. trying to get through this chart in the next couple of years - 2666 would be my 3rd book down since june.
anyone have any opinions on maximalism in literature? I can't claim to know a lot just yet but all i know is that i enjoy big books and sprawling writing. it's always incredibly rewarding if the author's good.

A lot of the Discord pseuds are in love with postmodern memes and they semi-ironically try to push memes. Some of them are abandoned, but take care to be wary of them.

Pic related is something they're trying to slowly introduce to the board as a meme.

Why's there so few maximalist books? It's so good and revered so much, and I was told big books are easier to write.

Haven't seen one of these in a while, and I have a really specific question, so, here goes:

Imma order a bunch of books from Amazon, pos-WWII US fiction that I couldn't find in any library where I live and I want to get to the 125dlls mark so I don't have to pay shipment (shit's like 15dlls), so I wanted to order something by Gaddis. Question is, which one do you recommend? JR or The Recognitions? Also, here's the list I'm ordering. Something else you'd recommend?
>Slow Learner, Pynchon
>Lot 49, Pynchon
>Against the Day, Pynchon
>Inherent Vice, Pynchon
>Vineland, Pynchon
>Supposedly Fun Thing, DFW
>American Pastoral, Roth
>Lost in the Funhouse, Barth
>Libra, Delillo
>Blood Meridian, McCarthy

What are some good lesser known post-modern books? For reference, something that employs any combination of themes such as irony, black humor, pop-culture allusions, allusions to other literature, and metafiction. Thanks!
