Any books about this phenomenon? Surely the faggot Samurai and Greeks didn’t speak like teenage girls. People who have all of their needs met in this consumerist society have the luxury of emulating different personas like they do change clothes.

Almost done with my second Lasch book and would like to dive into this topic.

I humbly desire a book in which the main character/major character is of a controversial nature (sexist, racist, etc) but with a rational philosophy behind it that really provokes thought about preconceptions that political correctness places on the individual while disregarding personal reason, philosophy and perspective. I find myself bored of the characters who hold these values when they are purposefully two dimensional angry strawmen void of any nuance, as I feel it disregards the very fundamentals of interesting and authentic character writing that allows for dialogue driven stories to challenge and innovate. Apologies if this topic is hyper specific but it's an itch that needs to be scratched.

Reading speed is underrated and overlooked in this board.
Why does /lit/ believe you'll not comprehend if you don't you read faster? Most of us are reading prose not poems.

I hate my own idealogy

>believe life is a boltzman brain
>tend to be materialistic
>suffering outweights happiness
>love is just evolution
>everything beautiful is boring
>consciousness is in a void
>science is not that "strong" since everything is made up with axioms
>hate for science, before that i loved physics etc.
>not living hedonistic fucks you
>living hedonistic fucks you
>deep down there is only the ego
>no thought without phosphorus
>living is escaping
>we are fucked either way

How can i change this retarded ideology?

A year after she left me, I continue to treasure the good memories of our time together. The bad does not negate the good. But I think I ought to stop, since it prevents me from moving on to somebody else. It would be easier if I could lie to myself and say, "She was a bitch and I deserve better." But she was a wonderful woman who just made a few mistakes, as all people do.
>If I get dubs I'll stop thinking about her
>If I get trips she still thinks about me.
>If I get quads she still loves me

What books does /lit/ recommend if one wants to learn about democracy and philosophy surrounding the founding of the United States? The current political ideologies in the U.S. government have strayed far from the original founding father's ideals and morals and as an American I feel obligated to at least become educated in the essence of what made this country great in the first place.

I'm at a crossroads in my personal and educational goals. I don't know if I should further my education by completing my undergrad and applying for medical school or if I should continue my career as a paramedic. On one hand, I want to make my parents proud. They are hard workers and being the first one out of my entire family to go to university I want to make my family proud by becoming a doctor, but I also feel like I was never meant to make it that far. For me, medical science is intellectually stimulating and challenging, which is why I'm attracted to being a doctor.

I also have close to zero support. My father is dead and my step dad doesn't give a shit about what I do. The only person that supports me in my goals is my mother.

What does literature, specifically philosophy, teach us about how to deal with traumatic events? I work as a firefighter/EMT and this was a vehicle fire where the driver was stuck inside and had perished.
A short excerpt from my journal.
>The skin had melted off parts of her body and you could see the bones in her hands, carpals and metacarpals, which where up against her chest curled up, almost like she was trying to put as much space in between her and the fire. Her breasts were completely gone. Her face was indescribably disfigured and charred. The body was so badly disfigured, there was not a single part of her body that was left untouched by the fire. Everything felt so surreal, everything felt like it was fake or a bad dream. I was the first one to get close enough that I was face to face with the body.

I feel you. I don't think I'm even that smart, so I'm not trying to sound pretentious or anything but I can't help over-analyzing everything. Makes falling asleep a pain in the ass, I try to just visualize stuff when I'm in bed now kind of like conscious dreaming

I enjoy reading. But the only things I'm left with upon finishing a book are basic recollection of the plot and a rare quote.

How exactly does literature benefit me?
What am I getting that I wouldn't get by watching films or anime?
