There's a parallel with this and the mood of Fight Club.
The 90s were truly devoid, nothing happening for 12 years, this continued up to the mid 2000s, while our lives aren't meaningful either at least we can laugh.

Think I’m having an existential crisis, /lit/. Is there more to life than just working and consuming products? Yeah, writing poetry and reading is cathartic and all, but my souls needs more. It’s probably time to confess my sins and then regularly go to mass again.
