Hey /lit/, what do you think of Vladamir Nabokov? I've only read Pale Fire (it was an interesting idea but I wasn't really immersed), and I've heard pretty disparaging comments about Lolita so I was wondering what you guys thought about him in general

What does /lit/ think of Nabokov's "Ada"? I haven't read any Russian lit outside of Chekov (I write short stories a lot so I try to read as many as I can, and Chekov's the master) and I'm about to start reading it as soon as I get my copy in the mail later. Is it a good book to start russian lit on?

How the hell does one go from Nabokov's playful and entertaining prose to the dry vaseline-desperate prose of every other writer on earth?

ITT we pretend to be writers if they lived in current times and went to /lit/.

So /lit/ my idea for a novel is about this pedophile who falls in love with a 12 year old girl and marries her mom to stay close to her, but I don't want it to be an obvious send up nor to feel like it's patronizing.

Hey /lit/

Looking for a good book on the craft of writing. I know there's a ton of books on how to write for profit and such, but I'm looking for some more on the art of it.

Can you recommend me some authors who have a wide vocabulary and who put it to good use?

Other examples I can think of are people like Joyce, Wilde and Fitzgerald.

For my money, Vladimir Nabokov has got to be the greatest writer of the last hundred years (at least).

On the one hand you are supposed to pay attention and read carefully, but on the other hand you probably shouldn't expect any story (especially that one) to be realistic.

Hi /lit/
I am wondering, is there any good criticism on Nabokov? All i read is only praising so is he really that good, or is it another overrated author? Never read anything from him, i am not really into modern literature, but i would give it a try if he is really that good.
