Point of reading Pynchon?

To those who have read any of him: What is the point of reading Pynchon books? When I hear people gush about Pynchon, they usually have trouble saying why. Basically what I'm asking: when reading a Pynchon novel, as a reader, what to acquire? What is the value of his texts?

My grandfather is supposed to have 80 and he's dead for 1 year. My other grandfather died in his 50s from heart attack.

He does look like he's aged relatively well

There was this "artist's rendering" of what he could possibly have looked like. I think he knew what he looked like but made one change to preserve Pynchon's semi-anonymity: he gave him short hair.

Have any of you read it? I was curious when I found out it was only in certain editions of Slow Learner. After reading it I can see why Pinecone might be ashamed of it or something.

It felt like a more lackadaisical prototype of the kinds of things he does in V. or even in other stories in Slow Learner.

I am Thomas Pynchon.
I have never once smoked cannabis.
I killed David Foster Wallace for denying my influence, and I pay for the infant souls that Harold Bloom needs to stay alive because he likes me.

>John Green calling someone a faggot
>John Green saying "audience pussy."
>John Green using the term, "banging hot."
>John Green getting head, not exclusively giving it

You need to get into the character a little more, but this has potential.
