Pic related does not really "disprove" Aquinas's arguments (which is mainly what neo-Thomists will rely on), but his introspection of the real nature of perception and reason basically makes Aquinas's arguments irrelevant.

Y'know, the thing I never really got about some of Kant's fundamentals was this: How did everything as we know it come to exist if the reality we experience, composed of representations/phenomena, only exists as a determination caused by the necessary conditions of our own experience. How is there a thing not subject to time or space beyond these representations, which somehow gave rise to us, when we weren't there to perceive and thus determine its finite existence as it was in the process of creating us? It would mean the thing-in-itself, in order to give rise to us, would have to be, in some way, similar to its representations, just so that those representations can be eventually determined in a form which gives rises to beings which possess the conditions for possible experience.

After the morning lectures, Kant had an elaborate luncheon for which he was joined by many friends. This was his only meal of the day. After a long conversation Kant went for his afternoon walk along the river followed by his servant carrying an umbrella in case it might rain. Then Kant spent some more time studying before retiring at exactly ten o’clock. Even going to bed involved a special ritual: Kant had a special technique for rolling himself up completely in the sheets so that they fitted tightly around him. In this cocoon he would sleep.
