Finally got into writing fiction again after a years long foray into a scholarly nonfiction project. Feels good. More than good. It feels like absolute liberation. Like the slave that bit through his chains like soft bread. It's obvious to me and anyone who truly understands me that I'm a born novelist. I feel that my polymathy is obligatory rather than voluntary and I write and do other things out of some external necessity imposed on me without my consent.

This was found in Dostoevsky's journal after his wife passed away. Reading it sent chills down my spine:
