Thank you brother, I just said a prayer for you too. I know you're Catholic but a recent Orthodox saint called St Paisios said that the chastity of the young people in this age will be considered a martyrdom of the moral sense. Saints don't use these words lightly so it's a good reminder of the spiritual warfare that we have to go through in this age. I just came back from the gym now and the way women dress these days is an abomination. I usually go to the gym later at night when no one is there otherwise I spend most of my time between sets staring at the floor. And then tomorrow I'll go to my wagie job in the city and there's all manner of temptation and warfare there too both in and out of the workplace. Everything in the world wants me to fall. All we can really do is, as you said, trust in the words of our Lord and, as St Paul says, in the fact that "no eye has seen, no ear has heard, no heart has imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.” But for now, we just pick up our cross and carry it.

Thank you anon. It's not so much a dilemma as it is a consequence of my state of mind at the moment. I'm afflicted by certain things at the moment which is why I think about monastic retreat. Though, there are moments during such afflictions, which I think is temporary sobriety, when I feel a disgust and distance from things that otherwise want to draw me in. It's a weird state, like you enter into a third-person mode of observation. At any rate, I'm probably a coward like that other anon says. A genuine desire for the monastic life is for the love of God not merely because you see the ridiculousness of things around you. I probably don't love God enough to be a true candidate for monasticism. All I can really do is grit my teeth and go through what I'm going through until God delivers me, if He wants to. However, I sometimes sense a part of me which is at peace with not being married at the very least.
