You can get a good idea of whether or not an author is writing in good faith by doing a little research on your own. I googled Claudia Rankine, flipped through a copy of Citizen at the bookshop and decided she wasn't worth my time. Look at this picture. How do you argue with something like that? It's not poetry, it's a political screed. There's no attempt to change anyone's mind. There's no way to refute it except for retrying the Eric Gardner case with a bunch of leftist freshmen and sophomores. It's just an angry old black woman assigning collective blame.
