This is only tangentially political but I would highly recommend this. This is an easily digestible but potent eye opener, especially for Boomers of the TV generation. Whatever her political affiliation is it should make a person more grounded and wary of the influence media has on them.

No, it's the same shit we have been dealing with since the 80s. It's the same thing that DFW talks about in E Unibus Pluram: Television and US Fiction. It's really not worth writing out the thesis of these two works, when they are so short and so easily available online. Go read them yourselves you zoomers.

What does /lit/ think about pic related? I am about halfway through it and had no idea just how based America’s founding fathers were and how much much of an impact our communication mediums have on our actual culture and way of discourse.

The whole e-debate and political YouTube scenes make me so damn cynical.

Just read this one and enjoyed it. Made me a bit depressed considering it was written in 1985 and:

>People form their beliefs using memes that make them emotional.
>Discourse has devolved to baby talk at all levels.
>The current leader of America is a showman who can barely string together 280 characters.
>People are simultaneously apathetic and outraged while ignoring their own political impotence.
>Misinformation and useless banalities are more frequently shared and circulated than actionable articles and papers.

Any other good reads on the epistemology of media and information? Something to balance out the views of Postman might be good to build a critical understanding of the topic. Or should I just go outside and throw rocks at my computer to escape this hell of meaningless stimulation?
