When you make deals with infernal entities a mortal does not have have the knowledge or insight to understand the true nature of the deal, or the full cost.

These entities fulfill their end of the bargain by manipulating the subtle realms where they reside. This is something YOU can learn to do, with practice, on your own.

It is like hiring a crooked contractor to repair your counters or build you a cabinet. He charges you way too much, and if he's a real fink he also initiates a frivolous lawsuit or files a false lien on your property. A big problem you my never fix. All for something you could have learned to do yourself. Which would have been much cheaper, and infinitely more rewarding. You could have even requested the aid of honest contractors (i.e. Christ, angels, saints, God) to make your work more effective and quicker.

"Occultism" in the western tradition generally refers to magic that involves dealing with entities found in Grimoires. That's what Lee is talking about here.
