How the fuck does copyright law work for books? I can’t imagine Ernest Cline went to every single owner of every IP referenced in Ready Player One and made sure to get their OK before putting them in

This was probably the longest book I have ever read and took me just under 4 months from prolog to epilogue. I loved every minute but had to push through many thoughts of quitting. I never wanted to stop merely because I didn’t like it but because I was frustrated with how long it was taking, and I wanted to start other book. I consider myself a pretty dedicated reader, reading between 5-6 nights a week usually, but I read to go to bed so many times I’ll read for just 15-30 min. Now I would find time on weekends or other times to get longer stretches in but that was maybe an hour or two here and there. I’m just excited that I made it through to the end! I’m excited to start my next book, “Ready Player One” and come back to some of these longer novels later this year!

>As gamers we don't give a shit. We don't care about religion. We don't care about politics. We don't care about wars. We don't care about your gender. We care about the game. It's the release we seek after whatever we have been doing through the day. If papers are moaning about fantasy sci if movies then they really need to have a word with themselves in a corner.

What did he mean by this.

how heavily is this book in favor of virtual reality?
will the movie be bad for children to watch?

Why is this getting a film adaption. I just finished reading the book because I thought the movie trailer was cool, it is one of the worst books I have ever read. It's literally nothing but a shitty love story and constant 80's references every 3 words. I don't know what the fuck the studios saw in making a film adaption.

I saw a thread about Ready Player One a few days ago, and that plus the fact that it's getting a movie made me decide to read it.

Now my question is, what do I read next so I can fucking forget about this trashfire and move on?

I'm 53, I'm not a gamer, I'm not the right demographic for who this book is aimed at, but it's so good I don't want to finish it. I've got 62 pages left so I'm pacing myself - I urge you, if you havent read it, you should. And even better I just saw the post about Spielberg making a film!

I thought this book would be fun. I read 45 pages in and I hate it. I don't know what I expected.

Books like Ready Player One?
I just read it, and I'm looking for recommendations. In the Sci Fi genre I've also read and loved the likes of 1984, Ender's game, and the like.

Has anyone here read "Ready Player One"? I really think Joe Rogan would enjoy it. With the VR plot and how smartly written it is, it really seems up Joe Rogan's alley. I mean, even before it was published, Warner Bros bought the rights to make it a movie, and Spielberg is directing it. Has anyone here read it?

>highly recommended modern book
>comes to chapter 3 or so
>the main character and his friend brags about how much they know about oasis(the virtual world that they are inside), 80's movie and video game trivia.
>they are basically jacking each other off
>it's fucking disgusting

I can't belive that i got tricked into reading this book.

Ready Player One.
I cannot believe the amount of people that excused the awful writing because it was "fun."

Ready Player One has strong escapist themes. Not really a novel to make the *reader* escape, per se, but still deals with the concept rather nicely.

This book's popularity is proof that no matter how fashionable it is in geek culture to locate and tear down bad entertainment, geeks know nothing about quality fiction.
