Thiel is a weird technocrat. On the one hand he can clearly spot the disassociation of capital and technological development from democracy, and he's also ultra-right progressive to the point he would probably grow children in vitro for the purpose of selling their blood if only he was born in China instead. On the other hand, he is very asinine and basic in his claims, clearly he spends a lot of time "doing" and "working" and not nearly enough time "thinking" and "learning" (a downside of being a technocratic billionaire I suppose), so that he absolutely requires other people (as in, he is unable to even be a minor participant on it, merely relishing on the after effects) to do the actual writing down of ideas and the true jumps in cognition required to propose policies and/or innovate in technique. That book is a testament to this, and honestly if you liked it that much it means you did not read much economy so far (to put it in perspective, even Piketty's meme in the 21st century is better than that).

Ultimately, I think Thiel is kind of small fry compared to technocrats who are actually able to delve into their investments such as Robert Mercer. He appears to me a tool of tech and of his subordinates more than he is a driver of both. The book also transpires that actually, it is full of aphorisms such as "Monopoly is the condition of a successful business" that do not truly provide insight or throughout analysis of his deeds (because little of it are his deeds, so it makes sense). Note I'm not saying the guy has nothing useful to give, I'm just saying that it's not a book and not his intellectual prowess: his brand name and intentions of subsidizing the emancipation of capital from democracy (rending it even more efficient) is where his "value" lies if you're into this sorta thing.

Land seemed to have toned down from his drug induced prophetic technobabble as of late. Though as for early Land, Jews don't want to get rid of humanity quite like he does. No one wants to actually, I'd say not even his now-with-children self. In the future he envisioned we are an afterthought, with no chance of transcending or possibility of having place in the wheel of Capital.
