How can this book not be on the "Recommended Reading" list? It's probably the best book in the twentieth century.

I'm finding it difficult to want to keep reading this.

Should I plow through? i'm only 50 pages in but it's just not grabbing me.

Is it just me or do some books lose their luster when they're recommended to you?

I seem to enjoy a novel more when I just happen to pick it up, with no pretense, which is why I think recommendation lists are are lawful evil.

hey c/lit/fags. i usually don't come here due to your massive amount of elitist, book snob faggots, but i was wondering if any of you had a suggestion for a magical-realism fag like me. what do i read next?

Hey /lit/, should I read this in english or in the original spanish text?

Even though I spanish is my native language, I feel I am more proficient with the english language. On the other hand, I want to appreciate the author's original intent. Help?

Opinions?

I think is the best book I've read so far.

The chronicles of a cursed family in a desolate, magical village over the course of a hundred years. Hilarity ensues; twenty-four different characters have the same name.

One Hundred Years of Solitude, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Tells the story of the fictional Buendia family (and by extension the town that grows around them); it tracks their successes and failures, their high-points and lows over the generations. It's magical realism, which means crazy shit happens from time to time, and it's absolutely beautifully written.

Quite possibly my favourite book of all time

What does /lit/ think of García Marquez's 100 Years of Solitude? I find the fluidity of time and paralleling characters to be some of the main points of genius.
