hah my safety school had this on their required freshman reading list (back in 2012), I got in the mail after agreeing to go there. Luckily I found out late that I was accepted to my reach school after moving to the top of the waitlist, so despite receiving it in the mail never read it lmao. At the time the fact that we had to read a young adult novel really turned me off, but I figured they were going for the LCD.

This is my personal take on it but I've always found writers who write about what they don't know personally to be pretentious. But then again I'm a perfectionist faggot who can't write because I'm afraid of misrepresenting a "real" that doesn't exist in any singular sense. Hopefully I'll be able to get over that because no amount of experience by my current standard would make me ready to write. That's why I'm envious of people who can just write freely desu. But I stand by my point that writers who lazily misrepresent something they haven't experienced or been impacted by often come off as pretentious.
