&amp is best suited for shortform prose, microfiction, poetry, vignettes, photography, essays, letters, illustrations, memes, and art. Longer form works belong in other, more accommodating venues, where the work may be subject to more responsible editing and overall workshopping.
When &amp started, it was a catch-all for /lit/-generated material, but now that /lit/‘s creative output has expanded beyond being simply amused by the novelty of reading their work in high-gloss, acid-free, FSC-certified, UV-coated 80# text and cover stock in full spectrum CKMY printed by commercial HP Indigos and meticulously handcrafted by dutiful Californians and fastidiously issued by aeroplane around the world, &amp is best served by /lit/‘s trash.
A bottom feeder, if you will.
It takes nothing to write a hundred words. Try it. Unleash them. I’m sure you have leftover poetry fermenting in the icebox of your My Documents folder. Unearth them. And I know you’ve all at some point had to kill your darlings—well—save them! Save your darlings and give them a permanent home at &amp, a dignified resting place for all the slowly settling detritus of this esteemed community of outsider creatives.
Send your longer works too, we can put them in paperback.

When you're enjoying a classic work of prose or verse, how do you know that you don't think it's good simply because you know that it's considered good? In other words, what are some universal heuristics for good works of literature?
