So, I've heard this praised on nothing less than superlative terms my whole life by people of vastly different tastes. I finally read it. And I have to say, As I Lay Dying, Light in August, heck, even The Bear, are all way better. How did this become THE definitive Faulkner novel? Thoughts?

So I just finished reading Quentins Sections in William Faulkners "The Sound and The Fury".
That section was way better than Benjy's section, but it was still crazy hard to follow.
Help me understand this mindfuck of a book please bookfags.

Why did Quentin punch Gerald and then end up getting his ass kicked.

Alright /lit/, I graduated a few weeks ago and decided to go to my local community college for summer courses. I'm currently taking a summer course in literature. So, now I have to read this book. Pic Related. This has to be the worst book ever written. I can't make out anything about what the fuck is going on. What the fuck was the author thinking when he wrote this? It's like he doesn't want the reader to know the story. Sadly I have to write a paper on this and I don't have any clue what the fuck I am reading. Also, I'm not a politically correct prude, but this book has the n-ward on basically every page. Why would any teacher give this kind of book to students? Leave this old mess of racist garbage in the past. /rant.
