>randomly talking to this sixteen year old kid from the third world last night
>he starts asking me about my life and all that jazz, and i find myself venting in a way
>he's listening calmly and giving simple encouraging words
>then i ask about him
>he says that 7 of his relatives recently passed away because of an armed conflict, and he's about to take part in a very tough exam to get access to higher education
>he still keeps repeating that life is good and as long as he gets the chance to move towards his goal, which is helping other people solve their personal problems, he's fine
>mfw his simple & earnest words get me crying
Books for this feel ? It was a very humbling experience.

nothing hurts like knowing that you realistically had the chance to attain greatness, but you fucked it up for yourself all on your own. i don't think anyone can recover from that

today is the day where i've started to realize that she might have a serious personality disorder. i feel so bad for her. how should i help her ? it seems like every approach could lead to severe damage. if there's any anons who had relationships with partners that suffered from personality disorders (not just bpd), please share your experience.
i'm also thinking about reading thomas szasz's books to look at these psychological issues from an alternative point of view. am i going into his work with the wrong mindset ?

Any books that have a bleak, melancholic or pessimistic tone?
