>look mom, I ripped these creatures away from their families and natural habitats, raised and reconditioned them since an early age with safety and resources bought at the expense of staggering amounts of other creatures and people, in enclosures kept clear and safe because mounted gunmen patrol them, here I let the animals grow according to standards and techniques gleaned by countless experiments by men before me doing the same that involved many 'learning experiences' where both they and the animals in question were maimed or killed, here I keep the animals fully fed at all times with food and flesh stolen from other members of nature, and can you believe it after a lifetime of conditioning and a full belly at all moments carefully maintained in this bubble of mine, the animals don't rip out one another's eyes! This totally artificial bubble which I made that itself involves the massacre and maintained control of entire worlds where not a moment of hunger or danger is felt PROVES unquestionably that animals in nature only want to help one another

I'm surprised to find this sentiment here, precisely because I agree with it. The Children of Hurin is beautifully in so many ways. I marvel at it especially in a literary sense, it's so economical and expressive and reads almost like an actual campfire rendition of one of the lays of Beleriand. It is immensely apropos unto itself, there's not a shred of drag or incongruity to be found. And of course it's also deeply tragic, hauntingly beautiful.

Not me, my writing is fantastic and I regularly conceive of beautiful tidbits or word-plays in my head, the sort of stuff where you think 'I should write that down'. I never do though, no need, in the vastness of my ability I can afford to squander it all. There's a brilliant idea for a story I autistically enacted on the bus ride home just now I'm currently in the process of forgetting.

>How do you live with yourself if you're in the first group?
I find immense relief in regularly in visiting the prospect of suicide.

I put zero effort into my courses because they are dumbed down for the lowest (and leftest) common denominator. I haven't read any of the books assigned this term, just skimmed online summaries and was conscious in class...I constantly receive praise for my writing, which sickens me every-time. It's not even the fact that the experience is such a waste of time, it's the fact that it's so simple to say what they want to hear and yet most of my peers struggle, it honestly feels like some perverse circle of hell.
