I never read light novels, but I consume a lot of manga/anime. To me it's all about the aesthetic, so I also find it weird that anyone would want to read light novels. Don't get me wrong, I've consumed lots of anime/manga that I would consider having good or even great story, but all of them would be cheapened if you removed the visuals.
