The more I learn about Rose the less I like him. He's doing exactly what Watts cautions against, 'clinging' to religion because he desperately needs something to hold onto as we're all falling, and I've never seen a better example of this foible than Rose. He has nothing to show for his ministrations besides what he had when he started his spiritual journey, a simmering dislike of the world.
